IN THE GARDEN: Lettuces, carrots and greens, but begin planting warm-season vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, and squash, too.

CSA

COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a fresh produce subscription program that allows participants to receive a regular delivery of fresh, seasonal produce during the growing season (usually 20 – 22 weeks; May to October).

What are the benefits?

You get to participate in the bounty or risk along with local farmers.  This means, if the weather and conditions are good, you will get a lot of fresh healthy produce throughout the season. In return, farmers get the security of knowing the food they spend their livelihood growing is going to a good home.  Since you purchase the entire season up front, farmers also have enough starting funds to buy the seeds, water and tools they need to grow.

Many CSA’s are diverse; many you will eat based on the season and be able to try new produce.  CSAs are structured to meet your needs with many levels of payment, sizes, and pick up locations.  Individuals and families that participate in CSA’s report increased vegetable consumption and improved health!
