FIN Website Press Release
PRESS RELEASE – November 8, 2018
The Food in Neighborhoods Community Coalition (FIN) in Louisville, KY announces their new website at www.foodinneighborhoods.org. The website provides information on events, policies and resources pertaining to increasing the accessibility of healthy foods throughout our community including the location of farmers’ markets, Fresh Stop markets, community food production and gardening initiatives throughout the city of Louisville.
The Urban Agriculture Coalition, a working group of the Food in Neighborhoods Community Coalition, organized content for the website at www.foodinneighborhoods.org/grow as a one-stop shop for residents in Louisville interested in planting food-producing gardens and/or accessing locally produced foods. Features include a monthly calendar highlighting workshops and events, a resource library for for beginning, intermediate and experienced growers and an interactive map of the community gardens located throughout the city.
“For years we have heard from residents in Louisville how hard it is to find information about gardening and community food production in Louisville. We built this website so folks can access information and connect with the amazing individuals and organizations working to reconnect us to the soil and the process of growing food,” said Lilias Pettit-Scott, Urban Agriculture Conservationist with the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District.
The advocacy working group of FIN created a resource page for those residents wanting to get more involved in food security issues in our neighborhoods. Those interested can find information on different advocacy groups as well as meeting dates and times to get involved.
Looking for local food resources? The calendar lists the farmers’ markets in Louisville with location, day of the week and time. For more local food resources check out the Local Food tab for information about other local food retailers, like the Fresh Stop Markets, and farm CSAs. The site also includes a community forum where contributors can ask questions, post recipes and connect about different topics!
